Why Clothing Boutiques are like Puppies
I have a friend who got a super cute chocolate lab last year and I have loved watching this pup grow! Watching the tiny pup develop into a 75 pound full grown dog has been amazing. Over the past year I watched this pup Develop her doggie skills through running, jumping, having a lot of curiosity. I empathized with my friend as she struggled with the biting stage, the potty training journey and when the pup was testing her patience. And now, about 18 months later, she is now a fully grown, well behaved chocolate Labrador dog.
This got me thinking about how puppies are like boutiques. See, I have spent almost 3 decades helping grow businesses and the cycle is always the same; excitement of new turns into development stage, then curiosity, and then struggles and more struggles, and finally the reward.
When an owner decides to start a business she is excited and hopeful, she is happy to be creating her dream business! There is a lot to learn about product, finances, people, placement and promotions. She looks at what others are doing and tries to do the same in her business. She is constantly comparing her business to everyone else’s business and seeing what else she can do. Obstacles and struggles occur in the finances and in inventory. Mistakes are made with people and she begins to get frustrated with the business. This is the point where Boss Babes are made- because she will either give up on her business, or she will dig in and fight to get to the reward of a full grown Boss Babe Business Owner of a growing and thriving business.
