January’s To Do List:

  • Team Schedule

  • Payroll

  • Bank

  • Cleaning

  • Mental Break

  • Social Media

  • Networking

  • Sales Forecast

  • Inventory

  • Team Meeting

January’s Topics:

Driving Traffic: In January customers are looking for DEALS! So consider running promotions that are easy for customers to say yes to; examples are $10 steals, 40% off original prices, or BOGO (BuyOneGetOne) deals to move through your winter goods. However, if you cannot afford for your average sale to drop to those low price points, then consider “bundle pricing” where you package products together for an acceptable price; an example is placing a top and bottom together for $55.

Successful Teams: This is a great month to complete your product inventory and your team should be involved in this process. But also remember that January sales are slower and the team may feel unmotivated because of the slower traffic. Consider having a contest and reward for your sales team to achieve that is tied to overall team sales.

Profitable Client Experiences: Use your mailing lists and social media to tell your “deal hunter” customers what you have available. And for those other customers who rarely look at price tags, or for your fashionistas, tell them about all the new merchandise and how you continue to have the perfect trendy pieces!

Gathering Powerful Feedback: For me, January is when I like to look back on the previous year and finalize plans for the current year. Be sure you mark out a few days on your calendar to touch base with each of your team members to see what they loved and disliked about the past year. Also take time to review your sales for the past several months and make notes of how to be better this year. Use January to take time to reflect, gather feedback, organize your thoughts and plan to have an amazing year!
